Brighton and Hove libraries are run by the city council. Many of these libraries are newly decorated. The largest is the Jubilee Library which opened in 2005. In all there are 17 libraries in the Brighton and Hove area. They are: Jubilee, Hove, Coldean, Hangleton Library, Hollingbury, Mile Oak, Moulscoomb, Patcham, Portslade, Rottingdean, Saltdean, Westdene, Whitehawk, Woodingdean, The Mobile Library and the Brighton History Centre.
The library service also runs a Brighton History Centre, located in the upper floor of the Brighton Museum and Art Gallery. Here you can find old newspapers, street directories and electoral registers.
.Libraries are also community centres, a venue for book groups and homework clubs, a place to work, a place to use computers.
